Reconstructing Natalie

Laura Jensen Walker has done it again, but this time she goes to a much deeper level. In Reconstructing Natalie, we meet Natalie Moore who within the first chapter of the book we learn, is obsessed with breasts and is going to loose her own. The dichotomy of those two statements sum up the style of this book; humor and real life.

I like Natalie’s optimism, but also her realistic struggle with the changefulness of life and the unchanging hope in God’s love. We travel with Natalie through the diagnosis of breast cancer, the struggle of becoming ‘unattractive’, the fear of death, surgery, and finally life beyond her greatest fears.

Laura Jensen Walker always incorporates a variety of characters to compare to the heroine and usually you have a choice between two possible Prince Charming’s too. Spoiler alert: Natalie actually gets two for the price of one!

This novel isn’t for the faint of heart, but will certainly warm your heart and give you a new perspective on those struggling with life-death issues. A fantastic read! No wonder it won Women of Faith Novel of the Year award.
