In Memory of a Beautiful Woman of God

by | Oct 1, 2011 | Fiction Book Reviews | 9 comments

One year ago in the evening of Oct 1, my granny died. Her impact on my life has been tremendous – and continues to be. She was an oral storyteller, straight from the storytelling culture of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Throughout my childhood I would sit and listen to her wonderful tales of people in my family’s past, and as I grew up I started writing them down.

Some of the stories are sad.

Some are happy.

But many are stranger or more remarkable than fiction every could be.

She is the first person that I ever remember calling me a ‘writer’.

I believe the legacy of Christian faith she left behind to me, but also the love of story.

The Master Storyteller inspired her to tell her stories, which inspired me. I am eternally grateful and hope to share this gift for the glory of God.

I’d like to thank the Lord for my granny. Her love for Jesus spilled over into the lives of her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and all the people who came in contact with her.

May my life be such an example.

What a wonderful tribute to your grandmother. It’s easy to see where you get your beauty, both inside and out.

Thanks for sharing your memories. Anniversarys are hard and you’ve had it all packed in together. I’m praying for you!

Thank you for sharing your memories of your grandmother. Your post is a lovely tribute to her, but I’m thinking your life and your writing are the tribute she’d be most proud of.
Thank you also for reminding me of my own grandmothers and how their lives inspire me each day even though they’ve both been gone many many years now.

I’ll say a special prayer for your grandmother tonight.

Thank you, Mary. That means a lot to me. The two best things are – I know she’s with Jesus and I have such wonderful memories of her.

What a sweet tribute to an obviously wonderful woman who continues to touch lives even now. I believe memory is one of God’s greatest gifts to us. Thank you for sharing memories of your granny. My grandma passed away 11 years ago on October 13, and I still miss her tremendously. I’ll say a special prayer for you tonight, Pepper.
