I Reckon

2011-10-03 17.39.27Anybody use this phrase very often?

I thought it was just one of those fun Appalachian phrases until I went to England and realized…Nope – it came across the Big Pond with so many other words and cultures. It’s a phrase used for ‘I think”

“I reckon I’ll make a pone of cornbread to go with them beans”

This use of ‘reckon’ is very different than something like a ‘reckoning’ which deals more with judgement.

Around my neck of the woods the first form is used a lot. Have you ever heard it before?
