I enjoy collecting books about Appalachia – particularly children’s books. As part of the culture of Appalachia, there’s usually a lot of color and homespun charm within these storybooks, as well as humor. This book hints to a set of Appalachian stories known as Jack Tales. A hallmark of Appalachian stories was the fact that they were told, not read. Jack and the Varmints, Jack and the King’s Girl, and of course Jack and the Beantree are just a few of the Jack Tales.
Do you have any children’s books or stories you remember from childhood?
