The Switch

So…

Last night I watched the movie The Switch with Jennifer Anniston and Jason Bateman.

Let me just say off the top that I really like Jason Bateman. Ever since he starred on Little House on the Prairie, then went to The Hogan Family and Silver Spoons, I’ve been a fan.

On this movie – which can get a little lewd, but is almost free of cursing and there are no explicit sex scenes, Jason Bateman’s character is wonderfully flawed. AND endearing.

As I writer I’m always intrigued by writing beautifully flawed characters and still making them loveable – because, let’s face it, we’re all flawed and we all still want to be loveable.

It’s the human plight 🙂

When Jason Bateman’s character almost started crying while talking to ‘his son’ in the movie – oh dear- I’m such a sucker for a man who can cry!

And the little boy on the movie, Sebastian, is stellar.

Apart from the few party scenes and the fact that Sebastian had a few bratty moments, I really enjoyed this movie. It gave me food for thought about character development.

Have you seen this movie? What was your take?

I thought the movie was really cute, Pepper! Like you, I think Jason Bateman is charming and endearing. He just has an “everyman” air about him, strength and vulnerability and naivete. And just the right amount of comedic klutziness.

I totally agree, Myra. He does have the ‘everyman’ air – and the fact that he seems a little insecure and clumsy makes him all the more endearing 🙂
