Darcy Through the Years..Bride and Prejudice (2004) – Austen Challenge

by | Aug 5, 2009 | Fiction Book Reviews | 4 comments

Handsome and friendly American, Darcy, is the hero of this 2004 movie spin-off of Pride and Prejudice. Cultures collide as Indian MrsBakshi seeks to find husbands for her four unmarried daughters. There is plenty of room for misunderstandings when Darcy and Lalita combine personality and cultural differences to try and make a romance meant for a movie.
It took a little while for me to adjust my perspective to this movie – plus it’s a musical. The costumes were breathtaking, the invitation to the Indian culture spectacular, and the humor…very Austenish. I had a hard time understanding everything spoken sometimes, which took a little away from the movie, but Martin Henderson (Darcy) was perhaps the most ‘approachable” Darcy I’d seen.
Worth a watch, especially if you like musicals.

I'm going to have to try to find this. Yours is the second review to endorse it and I'm always game to try a movie with music in it!

Music, Austen, and chocolate…sigh, doesn't get much better than that 🙂
