Tower Green – Death in Style?

It was considered a privelage to have an execution away from hostile crowds and gaping commoners, thus the people who were killed inside the Tower of London had to be people of high rank and/or political status. Otherwise, the prisoners were take to Tower Hill, just outside the palace. 5 of the 7 people to be killed on Tower Green were women. Among the notable people who lost their lives on this green were three English queens: two wives of Henry the VIII and the young Lady Jane Gray.
