Exercising and Balls

During inclement weather or rain, the Long Gallery at Haddon was used as the rec room. The kids could play and the adults could walk about. This room was also used for large social gatherings, like balls.

I didn’t get a good photograph of it, but over the fireplace there is a portrait of Haddon Hall, painted in 1933.
In the picture below, I look back on the way we’d just come up the semicircular steps into the Long Gallery. It is said that the steps were cut from the roots of a single oak tree.
