Chapel at Haddon Hall

We began our tour of Haddon Hall by visiting the Chapel, which dates back to the mid-12th century. It was dedicated to St. Nicholas and there is a Fresco of ‘St. Nicholas calming the storm’ painted on the walls, along with many other frescos – many have deteriorated over time. The chancel of the chapel was built later, in the early 1400s by Sir Richard Vernon. This Chapel was also used in the ‘wedding’ scene for the new Jane Eyre movie, when Rochester’s marriage to Bertha is discovered.
